Debbie Flint

Beautiful little dog! She's such an adorable, loving animal, seriously one of the cutest ever and everyone's little star down at the research centre, where the bio detection dogs get to 'play games' all day when the 'go to work' - rather, doggy day care, where they help with early detection of human disease.

This week Dr Claire Guest was in the news again - along with Carolyn and her Pal. Well done team!

Don't forget the Mega Draw is now on till Sunday 13th August - just a £5 donation buys you a ticket to our official MDD raffle - go here to get one soon and check out the impressive list of prizes - big bundles this time - worth a go!

And tickets are now available for the jazz concert in The Plough, torrington, Devon, on Saturday 16th September - go here to buy tickets - do come it'll be fun! more about it here on the Facebook event page.

It's here! The brand-new raffle in aid of medical detection dogs is now active on JustGiving. There are some amazing prizes -

see the full donation page here

and check out the amazing value of first prize! All you have to do is buy a ticket for 5 pounds and Just Giving will do the rest, as will Sara the lovely lady who always organises these fundraisers. There are some massive prizes this time as you can see, it is on until Sunday 13th August - full Q&A on the page too, just scroll down, along with pics of prizes. The winners will be notified straight after. All the info you need is on the page. Thank you in advance for helping.

We have raised some wonderful money in the past, I do hope we are able to do so again now, especially considering how Dr Claire has been doing the rounds on various TV news interview programs recently following the announcement that the medical detection dogs team will before long be able to help detect Parkinson's disease apparently (see last post on this tab.) That's on top of their work with the NHS in a trial to detect prostate cancer in urine samples provided by the hospital. Plus maybe even breast cancer one day.

That's half of what they do. The other half is that they provide individual dogs to owners who have illnesses, eg diabetes (type one brittle) plus they even cover the cost of the upkeep and everything for the poor patient. It really is a worthy cause and I do hope you are lucky! Fingers crossed for you!

Raving about Rowan

I have to say I am absolutely raving at the moment about the brilliant Rowan Coleman novel - 'The Summer of Impossible Things.' I finished the audio book this week and it was one of those books that had me entranced – I kept finding myself staring into space because I was thinking about the characters in the story and could not wait to get back to the next bit. It is a genius time travel web of intrigue, and I loved every second. Do read my review here, where you can also find out how to get it for free.

Plus if anyone finds it, this week's My Weekly mag has a story by Julie Cohen my mentor. Julie is doing a tutored workshop at Retreats for You, our guesthouse, on September 25, Monday to Friday, for £600 or so. Full board including wine at dinner, tuition, one-to-one et cetera. If it is still available or if you would like to go on waitlist for the next one, do let us know at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

My QVC blog this week is now up here and has some interesting news, and a picture of Lee Hohbein my telly hubby - and his ripped pants! Ha ha! Do go see if you can. It also has tons of sneaky peaks from next week as usual and the early bird link available now for a cool pair of Skechers ballet pumps, Sunday's TSV. And which high flying daring ride I may go on in the next few weeks... out now, do go look.

On Facebook this week there were several Vlogs that were very different – including this one which was done from inside the 'Filter Through' coffee shop in Holsworthy where I go regularly not only to Waitrose but also to shop or to meet friends. Thing is when I tell them where to meet, I often mistakenly put 'see you in the Follow-Through…' OOps!  Now that would be an interesting shop… Not! Go to my official Facebook page to find out more and see some of the blogs. Do be sure and 'Like' the Facebook page if you would like to get regular updates.

At home in Devon this week, I took a photograph outside in the back courtyard to show the lovely flowers, the dogs came trotting after me and I said to them 'sit!' - as you do. And they did! Like two sentries! Like those lions on either side of a gated entrance. How funny.

Next week look out for a special video on the electric bike that I have now finally got set up and I'm using around the beautiful Devon countryside. It may be going up a very steep Hill pretty easy I must admit :-)

More next week.

Have a great week!

Luv

First – here’s a fab pic from my hol in Cyprus – it seems these icy cold flannels, distributed by a nice man round the poolside, is a tradition - loooovely! Considering it's about 28 degrees here atm! There are lots more on my Facebook page here, (do ‘like’ it to see the new additions!) and on this week’s QVC blog out Friday 16th here. Loving the sunny weather even though I can’t take the sun for long, it’s nice to have the choice.

Feeling a bit ‘fuge’ tho, as the kids used to say. I know I’m not, but the mirror and bright sunlight are not kind! Even if I can occasionally get the right angle!

Haha! So maybe it’s time to fix it with a dip into Chris James’s new book – more here. Seems a sensible choice, given my body’s dislikes of dairy etc. Book of the Week also includes the short Jack Reacher story from Lee Child. Am enjoying the get away here for writing my own novel too – as soon as I finish these blogs! Lol.

Tickets are Released for my Concert in Devon on September 16th! Talking of updates,Go here to read more about the night, and if you can, come down for the weekend. The Plough in Torrington is lovely, and a proper little arts venue with lots of concerts etc. Then the next day, we’ll be opening Retreats for You, my guest house in Sheepwash, for the Sunday afternoon too, for a vintage tea rooms event, so come down and meet us all!

And Derek’s latest pupdate, is here, along with the latest news about my other sponsor dog from Medical Detection Dogs – Lesley’s is here. Lovely to see them doing so well! If you’d like to name a dog eg after your parents like I did, (hence the Labrador called Derek, fner fner) there’s more info on their site here. So worthwhile, and you get regular newsletters like the ones pictured.

Also this pic went on my Facebook page this week - five step hair treatment! Do you like it? Think it could catch on?! lol. Actually it was a great Hairfix three step clarifying treatment plus elasticizer and a pre wash. Worked tho - came out well after.

Finally here’s the newest ‘early bird order link’ from QVC this week. I’m putting it here, in the absence of my ability to edit my tab on the website –

Go here to buy the Decleor one tomorrow.

And Go here to buy the Bare Minerals one for today (15th).

Hope you’re enjoying the summer which it seems has finally arrived in the UK – just as I leave – natch! Lol. And if you’re off abroad yourself, have a lovely time!

Much love

Ps if you missed last week’s home page update, which didn’t go out in a newsletter, it’s here, featuring the latest kitchen disaster involving the eggsploding egg! Lol… Shame I didn’t think of that title earlier! Hehe x

Check out this latest news about Derek, my first sponsor dog, whom I named by donating £2000 to Medical Detection dogs (more here). He's doing well, isn't he?! He's named after my late dad. Check out Lesley's update too, my second sponsor dog, who's named after my mum!

It's so lovely to know I've helped in some way to provide a canine partner who will dramatically change the lives of the patients who get given these dogs - usually diabetics with brittle type 1. Watch out for ongoing info and news about my work with them too, including the September 16th concert in Torrington, Devon, at The Plough Arts Centre.

Fancy helping this brilliant charity?
